Meet the writers!
Heather Ragusa (music/lyrics) and Jasmine Joshua (book)
Heather Ragusa (she/her) has worked as songwriter and recording artist for twenty years, including fronting Heather Rae and Tumbleweed and opening multiple times for punk legend Exene Cervenka. Heather has collaborated and performed with members of Social Distortion, Steppenwolf, The Abiders, The Pullmen, Lily Water, The Side Show Preachers, The Rug Cutters, Whiskey Chimp, performing at Carnegie Hall, venues throughout Southern California, and even placed second at the Cowboy Palace’s Amateur Performer Night behind Wanda the Dairy Cow Yodeler. Heather is currently recording her new album, Split.
Heather composed for two musicals with her writing partner Jasmine Joshua: Let’s Be Silver, their newest venture, and the nonbinary musical Here and Their: commissioned by The 5th Avenue Theatre, NAMT-sponsored workshops at Seattle Repertory Theatre, Rhinebeck Writers Retreat, Goodspeed Musicals’ Johnny Mercer Foundation Writers Grove, O’Neill National Musical Theatre Conference semi-finalist, Richard Rodgers Award finalist, and was featured on NAMT’s national playlist. Heather and Jasmine were also Jonathan Larson Grant finalists in 2023.
Jasmine Joshua (they/them) is a Seattle writer, producer, actor, and director. Jasmine graduated magna cum laude from UC Santa Cruz with a degree in Creative Writing. Their nonbinary musical HERE AND THEIR (Music and Lyrics by Heather Ragusa) was originally commissioned by The 5th Avenue Theatre, received developmental workshops at Seattle Repertory Theatre with support from NAMT, and further developed at the Rhinebeck Writers Retreat. In 2023, they worked on Here and Their at the Goodspeed Musicals’ Johnny Mercer Foundation Writers Grove, O’Neill National Musical Theatre Conference semi-finalist, Richard Rodgers Award finalist, and was featured on NAMT’s national playlist. Jasmine and their writing partner Heather Ragusa were also Jonathan Larson Grant finalists in 2023. Jasmine wrote and performed a solo track in the world premiere musical AND SO THAT HAPPENED for the 5th Avenue Theatre. Jasmine’s solo show BREADCRUMBS premiered at Seattle’s ACT Theatre’s Solo Fest and was also included in Ars Nova’s ANTFest. www.jasminejoshua.com
